Honeymoon in La Gomera and El Teide, Canary Islands (part II)
After posting a few days ago about our trip to Tenerife as newlyweds , today we are going with the second part of our honeymoon , in La Gomera and the climb to the Teide National Park .
We had already explored the northern part of the island of Tenerife from end to end, the Anaga Natural Park , the most spectacular beaches of black volcanic sand , we had tasted the delicious Guachinches , the typical gastronomy of the island of Tenerife…
We still had two of the highlights of the trip left: a ferry trip to the neighboring island of La Gomera and a visit to the Teide National Park , where the highest mountain in Spain and the third highest volcano in the world from the bottom of the ocean are located, which is nothing to write home about…
Trip to La Gomera, Canary Islands
We weren’t sure if we were going to do this excursion to La Gomera when we were in Valencia planning the trip, so we improvised as we went along and saw how the trip went. It would all depend on how we were going to manage the previous days in Tenerife , given that we are “restless asses” and we don’t stop seeing a thousand things and doing the most of the days! We had already seen a good part of Tenerife , so yes, on the penultimate day we took a ferry and off we went to La Gomera.
The night before we were seeing how we were going to do it, since either we would take the car that we had rented in Tenerife for the whole week on the Ferry, or we would rent one in La Gomera, just for that day.
It was cheaper to rent a car in La Gomera for the whole day than to take the car from Tenerife on the ferry, so we got up very early to catch the first boat that left at 8 in the morning. We didn’t have much time since the return boat left at 6 in the afternoon for the Port of Los Cristianos, in Tenerife .
We saw the Garajonay National Park , some of the very pretty little towns spread throughout the island like Agulo or Vallehermoso , not to mention the forests and more forests. Seriously, visiting La Gomera is like feeling like you’re in the jungle, giant ferns wherever you go, magical forests with moss and mist that give it a spooky and magical appearance. People who say that La Gomera is one of the most beautiful and spectacular places in the world are not being modest.
TEIDE NATIONAL PARK, TENERIFE
Last day of our honeymoon in the Canary Islands ( sniff, sniff …), the return flight left at 9pm, we had the whole day to continue exploring the island, we took a risk by leaving the excursion to visit Teide for the last day (living on the edge), but it turned out great.
When I say that we took a risk, I mean that we didn’t have tickets to go up the cable car, and now I’ll tell you why… the weather at El Teide is totally unpredictable. You can get the ticket a week in advance and the day you go up it might be windy or the weather might not be right and you find it closed. They’ll give you your money back, yes, but you won’t be able to go up.
The day before we saw that the weather was going to be good and that since it was low season there were plenty of free hours, we got up early to make the most of the day and headed to the Teide National Park .
What an incredible place the Teide National Park is , with a very unique and curious lunar landscape, volcanic lava everywhere you look, walking above the clouds is normal, it is the third highest volcano in the world and the 3 million visitors a year give a small clue of the spectacular nature of its surroundings.
Although I have a hard time deciding between everything we saw, I think the beastliness of the Teide National Park with those lava rocks, the height (3,715 meters) , the smoke coming out of the top of the volcano and how imposing it is, II I would say that is what I liked the most, there is no landscape like it in the world and that is the magic of this place.
So far our honeymoon in the Canary Islands , we have been captivated by each of its corners, its beaches, its people, its incredible gastronomy, its Teide , its forests, its Natural Parks … I can only say:
THANK YOU FOR EXISTING, CANARY ISLANDS!
