Travelling with children to the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas

Viajar con niños a la Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas, en Jaén

On New Year’s Eve 2022, to welcome 2023, we decided to spend it all 4 of us together as a family in the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas , in Jaén . To say that we were captivated by the area falls short of how happy we were after our 4 days in the Sierra de Jaén .

Our family trips and plans with children category are on fire, we take our suitcases out of the sofa bed and fill them with down jackets, gloves, hats and warm clothing to spend a few days in the mountains in one of the most beautiful high mountain houses we have ever stayed in.

The village chosen to stay and move around the Sierra de Cazorla was El Robledo , at the foot of one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, Segura de la Sierra . The house had 3 floors with a suite on the top floor that opened onto a spectacular terrace with 360º panoramic views of the mountain

We were going to travel for 4 days, we had to plan really well to see and visit as much as possible during the days in the mountains. Our first stop and perhaps the town we liked the most was Segura de la Sierra , located on top of a mountain with narrow streets, beautiful houses and a charm that captivated us as soon as we got out of the car, wonderful.

It was New Year’s Eve and there was literally no one around. We were alone in the village, we were able to get to know it well without missing a single detail, we took the opportunity to do some shopping for the New Year’s Eve dinner. The day ended with dinner at home in front of the fireplace, the next day the highlight of the excursion awaited us…

Route to the Elías gorge along the Borosa River in the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas

We got up early to prepare a picnic and we headed out to do the Borosa River route , although the route is about 22 kilometers long, our goal was to reach the Elías gate , specifically the wooden walkways that hang from the mountain .

There is quite a stretch from where you park your car (free and easily accessible parking) to the Elías gate , approximately 4 kilometres along an easy path with hardly any gradient. When we reached the walkways we were left open-mouthed by such natural beauty.

The route is full of bridges that cross the Borosa River. Throughout the route you go through wild nature, surrounded by mountains, the entire path is a river with impressive views and relaxation.

Climb up Mount Yelmo and visit Hornos, the balcony of the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas

We spent the days we had left getting to know the area thoroughly and enjoying the local cuisine. We went for a stroll through Hornos , a pretty town with views of a reservoir, and we worked up the courage to climb Mount Yelmo , at no less than 1,809 metres. It was amazing how the entire Sierra de Cazorla looked from the top of Mount Yelmo.

The Sierra de Jaén area has totally captivated us, we loved everything we visited from Segura de la Sierra , the route through the Elías pass, Hornos , Cazorla , El Robledo … if you like nature and you are thinking of getting away for a few days with your family, I recommend the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas! Now tell me, what did you think of our family trip in the middle of nature?
